Cancer has lodged deeply within Jill Brzezinski-Conley’s bones and left her with scars in place of her breasts.
It’s the reason she’s filling a journal with life lessons for the nieces she calls her angels: "One day I will not be here to watch you grow into beautiful, mature women. So please read this when I am gone."
Be confident and kind, she tells them, and remember that those qualities are the essence of real beauty — which nothing, not even incurable cancer, can erase.
Conley never hides the evidence of her disease. She has a prosthetic to put inside her bra, but she never wears it, even in photos. She’s never liked wearing wigs, either.
"I choose to be who I am — to be beautiful," she says.
