Crew of 'Coasties,' aging ship are all Dauntless - Houston Chronicle: ABOARD THE COAST GUARD CUTTER DAUNTLESS - While the Coast Guard searches for drug traffickers and immigrant smugglers, the enemy it cannot defeat is time. The sea eats away at this aging ship as the crew works around the clock to maintain her.

The Dauntless' keel was laid in 1967, the year Muhammad Ali was stripped of his heavyweight crown for refusing to fight in Vietnam. It has the same two locomotive engines it came with. And the same steel hull, painted white, although that required extensive maintenance last year for deeply corrosive rust.
