KY3 News Ozark Life archives: The father of photojournalism | Local - Home: When the Pulitzer Prizes are announced each year, many photojournalists can look back at one man from the Ozarks who shaped their award winning career. Clif Edom was considered the father of modern photojournalism. Edom was instrumental in creating a landmark curriculum at the University of Missouri that exists to this day. Cliff and his wife, Vi, also hosted what they called The Missouri Workshop in their hometown of Forsyth each year. Photographers from around the world would come to the Ozarks for an intensive week of photography in small towns and communities, finding people and telling their stories with pictures. Cliff and Vi invited former students who'd gone on to work for National Geographic, Life Magazine and other publications to assist them as faculty. Ed Fillmer visited Cliff and Vi in the 1980s as they worked to organize yet another of their highly respected workshops for aspiring photojournalists. Fillmer's visit coincided with a National Geographic Magazine article about the Edom's work in the Ozarks.
